BCCs: The Right Way to Send
Email to Multiple Recipients
Are you irritated when you receive forwarded emails that show the sender's
entire address list? Not only does it make for a lot of stuff to have to
scroll past, but it exposes your email address to possible spammers and
other people you would prefer not to give it to.
The solution is easy. Use the BCC
(blind courtesy copy) field, not the TO
or CC field.
You may have tried this in the past and
been thwarted because your mail program won't send if there's nothing
in the TO field. There's an easy solution to that too: address it to
yourself.
Having trouble finding the BCC field? In
Outlook or Outlook Express, click on the CC icon to
bring up your address list. There you'll see the TO, CC, and BCC fields.
Click on a name, then click the BCC button and click OK.
What if your intended recipient isn't in your Outlook address book
and you don't want to add him/her? You can use the above method to force
the BCC field to pop into the email you're composing, then simply type
the email address there. Be sure to use a separator between each
(usually a semi-colon [;]).
Now you know why you get emails without
your name in the TO or CC fields!
However, be aware that many people set up
filters to deliver mail straight to the trash if it's not specifically
addressed to them. |
